Chhappan Dukan
“Sarafa's well-behaved daytime sibling. Cleaner, calmer, better for families — slightly less magic.”
Fifty-six shops in two neat rows, pedestrianised, lit up, and dedicated entirely to eating. Chhappan is where Indore goes for an evening out that starts with pattice and ends with falooda — and unlike Sarafa, it's fully awake in daylight.
The 2019 smart-city redevelopment turned Chhappan from a busy food row into a proper pedestrian plaza — seating in the middle, shops on both sides, no traffic. It's the easiest introduction to Indore food: everything Sarafa does after dark, Chhappan does from breakfast onwards, with a place to sit.
The anchor stops: Johny Hot Dog for the benjo (their egg-less 'hot dog' that has outsold burgers on Uber Eats worldwide), Vijay Chaat House for khopra pattice, and Madhuram for shikanji. Between them, graze freely — quality is consistently high because rent here doesn't forgive a bad shop.
Two of us ate five rounds for well under ₹600. You could do a respectable lap for ₹200 a head if you resist the falooda. You should not resist the falooda.

- Come slightly hungry at 5 PM; by 7 PM on weekends every bench is taken.
- Khopra pattice is the sleeper hit — coconut-stuffed, fried, and criminally underrated outside Indore.
- It's a 10-minute walk from Palasia square; rickshaws know it as 'Chhappan'.

A ₹50 legend that earns the hype. The benjo is a texture masterclass, not a gourmet dish — order it knowing that.

The khopra pattice is a top-five Indore bite. Everything else on the menu is merely very good.
