Johny Hot Dog
“A ₹50 legend that earns the hype. The benjo is a texture masterclass, not a gourmet dish — order it knowing that.”
A snack counter at Chhappan Dukan that once out-ordered every burger joint on Uber Eats' global list. The benjo — a spiced veg or egg patty pressed into a soft, buttered bun — costs ₹50 and has a queue at 4 PM on a Tuesday.
Vijay Singh Rathore ('Johny') has been making these since 1978, and the operation is hypnotic: a wall of tawa, a rhythm section of spatulas, and buns moving at industrial speed. The veg benjo is the classic order; the egg benjo is the better one.
Manage expectations: this is a perfect ₹50 street snack, not a destination meal. The joy is in the butter-crisped bun and the speed of the thing. Two people eat well for ₹150–200, and you'll still have room for the rest of Chhappan — which is the correct strategy.
